Play checkers online with friends: free, with live voice
CheckersTalk lets you play checkers with friends and family anywhere, on a phone, tablet or computer, with a live voice call running in every game, so the talking across the board comes back.
How to start
- Open CheckersTalk in your browser. There is nothing to install.
- Sign in with Google in one tap.
- Pick a game: against a friend, or against the robot while you wait.
- Choose the rules you want.
- Send your link in the group chat. Your friend taps it, signs in, and takes the other side of your board.
Four rule sets in one place
You can play the four most popular rule sets of the game:
- American / English checkers, on 8 by 8, with forward-moving men and short kings.
- Russian draughts (shashki), where men capture backward and kings fly.
- International draughts, on the large 10 by 10 board with majority capture.
- Turkish draughts (dama), with straight moves on all 64 squares.
The board follows each variant's rules, including forced captures, so you can learn by playing. For the differences, read checkers vs draughts: the variants.
What makes it different
- Live voice in every game. You and your opponent hear each other the moment it happens. Gloat, groan, and explain your clever double jump in real time. There is chat too.
- Free. CheckersTalk is free to play. Coins at the bigger tables are for bragging only and can never be cashed out.
- No download. It runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer.
- A robot for company. No friend around yet? A robot can sit across from you until they arrive.
- Safe for teens. Players aged 13 to 17 only ever play other teens, never adults, and never for coins. Under 13s cannot sign up.
Try it before you sign in
The CheckersTalk home page has the real board and the real robot right on the page. Tap a piece, tap where it lands. If a jump is there, you have to take it.
No account needed to look around: the guides on this site stay open, and the board on the home page lets you feel the forced jumps and the crowning before you commit to anything.
New to checkers?
Read how to play and the rules first, then try a friendly game with someone patient. When you want to improve, move on to strategy and tips and openings and traps.
What a game feels like
You open the link, the board appears, and the call connects. Your move shows on your friend's screen the instant you make it, and so does their groan. The board enforces the forced captures, so nobody has to argue about the rules. A game can be as short as a few minutes. When it ends you can talk it over, play the same opponent again, or switch to another rule set for a different kind of game.
Learning as you play
Playing the robot is a good way to practise without pressure. Start on the American rules, where kings move one square, then step up to Russian draughts to meet backward captures and flying kings. When you are comfortable, the 10 by 10 International board is the deepest challenge, and Turkish draughts is a completely different game that plays on straight lines.
A game for the whole family
Checkers is one of the few games where a grandparent and a grandchild can play on equal terms: the rules fit on a postcard, and the depth never runs out. Playing online means that distance no longer matters. Send the link to the cousin in another country, and the whole family can play, with the voice call making it feel like the same kitchen table.
